Resolving Individual Issues

Your experiences with the mental health or addition systems or police can inform the Empowerment Council who will try to make organizational changes that will benefit you and others. Your input directs the kind of changes we seek from these organizations. Unfortunately, we are not resourced to address these issues individually. For individual help you can go to: 

Individual Advocacy Resources within CAMH

Psychiatric Patient Advocate Office (PPAO)

Psychiatric Patient Advocate Office (PPAO) is independent of CAMH and offers advocacy for people who are inpatients at CAMH. They also provide rights advice and can assist you in contacting a lawyer if necessary.

Client Relations Office

The CAMH Client Relations Office (CRO) is part of CAMH. They respond to complaints or compliments from clients/patients of CAMH, families, or others.

Individual Advocacy Resources Outside CAMH

Legal Aid Ontario

Legal Aid Ontario provides legal help in English and French for financially eligible low income Ontarians in: family law, refugee and immigration law, criminal law, mental health law.

Ontario Ombudsman

To find out if your concern is one that the Ombudsman can help you with, go to Ombudsman.on.ca.

Ontario Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD)

If you have a complaint about police in Ontario, you can make it to the OIPRD.  If they refer it to the police, you can ask that it be referred back to the OIPRD.
